Overview
The lay of the land in Goddard.
Goddard was founded in 1883 and named for J.F. Goddard, a Santa Fe railway official. It stayed small for most of its history, then grew from about 2,000 people in 2000 to 5,084 in the 2020 census. Kellogg (US-54/400) runs east and west through town, and most of the growth sits on either side of it.
The homes
Much of what’s for sale in and around Goddard is newer construction: two-story and ranch homes in subdivisions such as Elk Ridge, Arbor Creek and Rachel Brooke Estates, plus patio home communities like Bluestem. Older homes sit near Main Street, and acreage is close by in every direction. The Goddard school district also reaches into far west Wichita, so plenty of homes with a Wichita address are in Goddard schools, while some homes with a Goddard address are in Renwick USD 267.
Getting around
Downtown Wichita is about 20 to 25 minutes east on Kellogg outside rush hour, and the shops on Wichita’s west side are closer than that. Tanganyika Wildlife Park, a privately owned zoo, is on the edge of town, and Lake Afton with its public observatory is a short drive south. The city runs Linear Park, Means Memorial Park and a public pool, and the library is on Main Street.
Buying or selling here
Goddard has a steady supply of new homes, so a resale listing has to be priced with the builders in mind. Acreage and homes that are hard to compare can do well at auction, where a set date and open bidding show what buyers will pay. We’ll run both numbers with you before you decide.
